The power of video

There’s no denying that video in the 2020 and beyond is going to lead the way in driving engagement. We have traditional landscape video that’s best used for Youtube, websites, Linkedin and Facebook. Square video for Facebook and Instagram posts, and portrait for Facebook and Instagram stories and IGTV. The mixture of video sizes is almost as vast as the types of video you can create. From promotional to sales videos, talking head to how too, the option is yours. Or is it the choice of your following.

Look, even though video is going to be massive in 2020 and 2021 you still need to make sure that the video is right for your audience, you can’t just get out the phone and shoot something that your audience wont be interested in the hope that they’ll convert. Trying to the get people to change their opinion upon first learning something is difficult, I’d say that as a society we’re more stubborn then we’ve ever been.

So think, who’s your target audience? Who’s following you? Are they the flippant type that will only watch short videos as Videos up to 2 minutes long get the most engagement? Are they book worms that like to watch long and in depth videos that challenge their mindset as viewers retain 95% of a message when they watch it in a video compared to 10% when reading it in text? Do they prefer sound, as 85% of Facebook videos are watched without sound? Are they something else.

Don’t hold back on video, it could be the best thing you do. But don’t jump around expecting to make a splash as you’ll need to have people already there that want to watch.

If you’re unsure what type of video to make then just make something and monitor the results. Make, publish and analyse. It’s the classic chicken and egg situation, you need to start somewhere. So grab your phone, open camera mode, switch to video and record a 30 second video of you talking about what you do. Post it onto your Facebook Business page and analyse the results. The make a 60 second video. Then a video of you showing someone else what you do. Compare the results and see what works best.
